Annabelle Fasuba Defends England U16 100m Title, Targets Legal 11.4 Seconds

Annabelle Fasuba, daughter of former world indoor 60m champion Olusoji Fasuba, has set her sights on running a wind-legal 11.4 seconds in the 100m after successfully defending her England U16 title.

Fasuba clocked a wind-assisted 11.45 seconds to claim victory and retain her national crown, having already established a lifetime best of 11.51 seconds in the event.

The talented sprinter expressed her delight with the performance and said she was hopeful of breaking the 11.50-second barrier under legal wind conditions.

‘Really happy with my time, hoping to run an 11.4 with legal wind. Well done to everyone who raced and hope for a good recovery for Araya,’ she wrote on Facebook.

Her performance also delighted her father, who believes his daughter has shown significant promise after spending just one week focusing specifically on the 100m this season.

Fasuba said Annabelle’s explosive start and strong finish demonstrated her ability to run fast times, despite the wind reading being above the legal limit for record purposes.

‘What a performance from Annabelle! 11.45s was the winning time, and Annabelle did not disappoint,’ the former champion wrote. ‘Although the wind was not legal for record purposes, she can take great confidence from knowing she is capable of running times like that.’

Olusoji Fasuba also praised his daughter’s decision to withdraw from the 200m to allow her body to recover, describing it as a mature decision that showed she was learning to listen to her body and prioritise her long-term development.

With the victory, Annabelle Fasuba has become a back-to-back England U16 100m national champion.
