Annabelle Fasuba makes history, becomes English Schools’ 100m champion
Annabelle Fasuba is surely following in the footsteps of her father, former African record holder (9.85), Olusoji Fasuba, after she became English Schools’ champion on Saturday at the prestigious track and field championships which were held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.
The 13 year old has enjoyed a dream debut season, breaking club, county, regional and league records.
Like her father who made history as the first sprinter to win the African Athletics Championships three consecutive editions, Annabelle also created another piece of history by becoming Devon, a ceremonial county in South West England’s first 100m English Schools’ sprint champion.
She set a new personal best of 12.03 seconds to win a stacked junior girls’ final and helped the mixed 4x100m relay team to win a silver medal.
A proud father acknowledged the feat her precious daughter has achieved in a post on his Facebook page.
‘Annabelle has set a new personal best and club record in the junior girls 100m with a time of 12.03 seconds in the English school competition. This is the third time she has broken her own club record for the 100m, solidifying her position as the record holder.
‘She is now the champion in the English school competition 2024. She is also a recipient of the legendary Dina Asha Smith’s award,’ wrote Fasuba who made history as the first African man to win the World Indoor Championships’ 60m title in 2008 in Valencia, Spain.
