Aribo makes first Southampton start in 2023

Onuachu still looking for first goal for club

Joe Aribo returned to reckoning at Southampton on Saturday as he started his first Premier League game of the year for the club in their 2-0 loss to visiting
Crystal Palace at the St Mary’s stadium.

The Nigerian has not featured in the Saints’ last eight Premier League games since he featured for 11 minutes in the 2-1 loss to Wolves in early February.

He played for 62 minutes on Saturday but his presenece was not enough to prevent bottom side, Southampton sink deeper in relegation waters without any hope
of surviving.

Aribo, who joined the club from Glasgow Rangers last summer has featured 20 times for the club and has scored twice.

Meanwhile, Paul Onuachu was subbed on for the fifth in eight games as the gangling Nigerian failed to become the 21st Nigerian to score in the Premier
League.

Onuachu left Belgian Pro League side, KRC Genk in January as the league’s top scorer with 16 goals from 19 games but he is yet to transfer that form to the
Premier League.
