Arsenal 5-0 Chelsea: Gunners record biggest ever victory over Chelsea
It was a tale of two extremes for Arsenal and Chelsea at the Emirates stadium Tuesday night in a Premier League fixture.
While Arsenal recorded their biggest ever victory against Chelsea across all competitions (5-0), it was Chelsea’s heaviest defeat in a London derby since losing 6-0 to Queens Park Rangers in March 1986.
Goals by Leandro Trossard, Ben White and Kai Havertz were enough to give Gunners victroy and take them three points clear of Liverpool who play against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday and four above Man City who visit Brighton at the Amex stadium on Thursday.
Arsenal have now won three London derbies in the Premier League this season by 5+ goals (5-0 v Crystal Palace, 6-0 v West Ham and 5-0 v Chelsea), the most such victories in a single campaign by a team in English league history.
According to Opta, Arsenal picked up their 24th victory of the Premier League campaign; their joint-most after 34 games of a top-flight season. Of the three times they’ve had as many wins at this stage, two of them have come in the last two seasons under Mikel Arteta (also 24 in 2003-04 under Arsene Wenger).
The Gunners have also gone on to win all 15 games when they’ve been ahead at half time in the Premier League this season, equalling their best 100% record when ahead at the break in a single campaign (also 15/15 in 2013-14).
Meanwhile, Kai Havertz became the first player to score a brace against Chelsea in the Premier League having previously played for them in the competition.
