Arsenal seeking to extend unbeaten home run vs Tottenham to 12 games

Arteta set to equal north London derby record

Arsenal will be seeking to extend their unbeaten home run against north London rival, Tottenham Hotspur to 12 games when both teams clash at the Emirates stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners have dominated recent proceedings between the two teams at the Emirates stadium and have lost just two of their 30 Premier League home games against the visitors (W17 D11).

Arsenal have remained unbeaten against Tottenham at the Emirates stadium since November 2010 when they gave up a 2-0 first half lead (Samir Nasri and Marouane Chamakh)
to lose 3-2 with Gareth Bale (50), Rafael van der Vaart (pen 67) and Younes Kaboul scoring the 85th minute winner.

It was the Gunners’ second and final defeat at home to Spurs in the Premier League era after losing 3-1 in May 1993 at Highbury.

Arsenal v Tottenham is the fourth-highest scoring fixture in Premier League history (171), behind only the Gunners encounters with Liverpool (175) and Everton (172), as well as Liverpool v Spurs (172).

Meanwhile, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta can become only the third Arsenal manager to win his first three home matches against Spurs.

The Spaniard has won both of his home games in charge against Tottenham viz the 2-1 triumph in March 2021 and the 3-1 win in September 2021.

Only two managers in Arsenal history have won each of their first three – George Morrell (1909-1911) and Terry Neill (1977-1979).

This is the first Premier League meeting north London derby with one of the sides top of the league since December 2007, when the Gunners won 2-1 at the Emirates. If Tottenham win, it will be the first time in top-flight history that either side has beaten the other to replace them at the top of the table.
