Arteta: We Didn’t Deserve To Lose To Manchester United

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta says he is disappointed his team lost a match they were the better team but admitted his team allowed Manchester United to win the game.

The Red Devils ended the Gunners’ 100% start to the Premier League season with a 3-1 win at Old Trafford.

“Really disappointed to lose the game, especially what happened. We had some big periods where we were totally dominant, created chance after chance and didn’t close the game.

‘And then when you give them space, they will hurt you. Both boxes was what decided the game today and my biggest regret is that we should have won the game given how we played,’ said Arteta.

The Gunners have failed to win any of their last seven Premier League matches against Manchester United when starting the day top of the table as they drawn two and lost five.

Man United legend Paul Scholes agreed Arsenal were the better team.

”Arsenal’s winning start to the season comes to an end as they slip to defeat at Old Trafford. It’s now four wins on the spin for Erik Ten Hag’s side.

“That’s a big win. Arsenal are in great form, won their first five games. Arsenal were probably the better team and controlled lots of the game, but on the counter-attack I thought United were brilliant in the second half,” he said after the game.

Arsenal have lost more Premier League away games against Manchester United than they have vs any other opponent (18), while only at Anfield (69) have they conceded more away goals than at Old Trafford (52).
