AS Roma: Why we sacked Jose Mourinho

AS Roma says the decision to part ways with Jose Mourinho is in the best interests of the club.

The club announced its dcision to part ways with the ‘Special One with immediate effect.

‘AS Roma can confirm that José Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect,’ the Giallorossi said in an official statement.

‘Mourinho was unveiled as the Giallorossi’s 60th coach in May 2021.

‘He led the team to win the Conference League in Tirana on May 25th, 2022, and to the Europa League final in Budapest last season.

‘We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said Dan and Ryan Friedkin.

‘We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

‘We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.’

‘Further updates on the new First Team coaching staff will follow imminently.’

Mourinho’s deal was due to expire at the end of the season.

The Portuguese won the Conference League in his first season at the club and lost the Europa League Final in 2022-23, but failed to get a top-four placement
in any of his two seasons at the Stadio Olimpico.

He won 68 of his 138 games in charge of the Giallorossi, losing 40 and drawing 30.

Roma currently sit 9th in the Serie A table, five points below fourth-placed Fiorentina.
