Ashe to lead five Auburn Tigers to NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships
Nigeria’s Favour Ashe will lead five Auburn University track and field athletes, including four men and one woman, competing in next week’s 2023 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The Nigerian, 20, will be making his second appearance in the championships after racing to a bronze medal finish in the 60m event in his debut last year in Birmingham, Alabama for University of Tenneessee.
Ashe, the reigning fastest man in NIgeria in the 100m and who tops the African 60m list so far this year (6.52) ran a 6.51 lifetime best in the semis before coming third in 6.55m in Alabama.
The Delta state born athlete has since transferred to Auburn University under former world 100m record holder, Leroy Burell.
Ashe won the Southeastern Conference, SEC, Indoor title at 60m last week recording the second fastest time in Auburn University history and becoming the eight fastest man ever at the school to win the event at the conference meet.
The 20 year old enters 2023 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships ranked third in the NCAA behind Texas Tech’s Terrence Jones (6.48) and Florida’s Ismael Kone (6.51)
The other three men are Kyle Brown (weight throw), Dontavious Hill (high jump), and Alex Spyridonidis (heptathlon) while the only woman in the team, Madi Malone Malone will be making her fifth consecutive appearance at the championships.
