Awoniyi aiming to equal personal Premier League scoring record against Chelsea

Taiwo Awoniyi is back in action after making his first Premier League appearance for Nothingham Forest against Sheffield United last weekeend, nearly two months after he featured in the 1-0 loss at Brighton.

The Nigerian will not only be hoping for more minutes when his club hosts Chelsea at the City Ground Saturday evening, he will also be eager to return to scoring ways after netting his sixth goal of the season in the 2-0 defeat of west Ham in February.

If he scores, Awoniyi will equal a personal scoring record of three goals against a club in the Premier League. The 26 year old has netted twice in three games against the west London side.

He has netted three goals against Arsenal and West Ham in four appearances against each of the two London sides and Chelsea could be the third London side and Premier League side to ship in three goals from the Nigerian bomber.

Awoniyi will also be keen to end the season as the top scoring Nigerian for the second straight season.

He leads the chart with six goals, one more than Alex Iwobi but knows scoring against Chelsea may almost guarantee his status albeit he may find it difficult to match the 10 goals he scored in his debut season.

If he does, he will then become the third Nigerian after Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Peter Osaze Odemwingie to score 10 goals or more in their first two seasons in the Premier League.
