Awoniyi can become first Nigerian to hit 20-goals a season in the Premier League

Taiwo Awoniyi can hit the magical 20-goal mark in the Premier League this term following the Nigerian’s impressive start to the season.

Awoniyi netted 10 times in 27 appearances in the competition in his debut season last term and the 26 year old has scored three times in four games this season.

The Nigerian could probably have scored more if he featured in the remaining 11 games he missed in the Premier League. A groin injury forced him to miss nine games between January and March this year.

He is arguably one of the most-improved players at the club over the course of the last 12 months.

The challenge for Cooper is to find the best formation and attacking formula to keep Awoniyi firing.

With Elanga, Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the ranks, there is no shortage of forward threat.

If Awoniyi scores 20 goals in the Premier League this season, he will become the first Nigerian to do after Yakubu Aiyegbeni (17 in 2011/2012 season), Peter Osaze Odemwingie (15 in 2010/2011) and Odion Ighalo (2015/2016) came closest.
