Awoniyi four goals away from joining exclusive Premier League club

Taiwo Awoniyi will be hoping to score when Nothingham Forest face Luton Town in a Premier League matchweek 29 tie at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

The 26 year old has netted six times this term in 17 matches and needs to score at least four more times to make history as the third Nigerian striker after
Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Peter Odemwingie to hit double figures in their first two seasons in the Premier League.

Yak, as Aiyegbeni was fondly called during his active playing years, netted 16 times in 37 games on his debut season in the Premier League and fired 12 in 30
games in his second season. In fact he scored 10 goals or more in his first four seasons in the English topflight.

Odemwingie also netted double figures in his first four seasons in the Premier League. He scored 15 times for West Brom in his debut season and 15 again in
32 games in his second season.

Awoniyi could join this exclusive club after netting 10 times on his debut season in 27 games and has scored six times already this term with 10 games to go.

Injury has not helped the Nothingham Forest star this season, missing as many as nine games after undergoing groin surgery between November 2023 and January
2024.

He has however scored twice and provided one assist since he came back from the surgery and will be looking forward to scoring against Luton Town, a club he
will be facing for the first time in the Premier League after missing the first leg, as it were last october.

Awoniyi will also be seeking to finish as the top scoring Nigerian in the Premier League for the second straight season after scoring five times more than
Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho last season.

The Forest man currently leads Fulham’s Alex Iwobi by one goal and will aiming to score again.
