Awoniyi misses chance to equal Premier League record

Taiwo Awoniyi missed the chance to become the fifth player to score a goal or notch an assist in each of his side’s opening six games after he was caged in
Nothingham Forest’s 2-0 loss at Manchester City on Saturday.

The Nigerian had scored in his first three Premier League games of the season against Arsenal, Sheffield United and Manchester United and provided an assist
in his side’s 1-0 win at Chelsea and 1-1 draw with visiting Burnley at the City Ground.

For the second time against the Cityzens, Awoniyi was not given any chance to cause any havoc and thus missed the opportunity to join David Beckham
(2000/2001), Thierry Henry (2004/2005), Sergio Aguero (2019/2020) and Erling Haaland (2022/2023) in either finding the back of the net or assisting in every
one of a team’s opening six league games.

What Awoniyi was denied of doing, Liverpool Mo Salah did by becoming the first African player to score a goal or notch an assist in each of Liverpool’s
opening six Premier League games after scoring a first half penalty in Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat of West Ham at Anfield on Sunday evening.
