Bassey Joins Super Eagles Camp Ahead of Poland Clash

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set for victory in Wednesday’s international friendly against Poland, with Head Coach Eric Chelle confirming the arrival of defender Calvin Bassey to camp at the Warsaw Presidential Hotel.

Bassey’s inclusion brings the number of players in camp to 20, giving Chelle a balanced squad across all areas of the pitch. Germany-based Philip Otele, who impressed at the Unity Cup in London, was expected to join later on Tuesday night.

With Bassey available, Chelle now has options in defence, including Semi Ajayi, Igoh Ogbu, and Emmanuel Fernandez.

‘Now, we have a team and we are preparing to go out there and win. Winning is the mentality that we are trying to create in the team, in the players. We will go for a win on Wednesday,’ Chelle said.

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who arrived on Monday, has already impressed in training. He joins Arthur Okonkwo, who kept clean sheets in his first two matches for Nigeria at the Unity Cup, and Francis Uzoho.

In defence, Zaidu Sanusi of FC Porto and Bruno Onyemaechi will compete for the left-back role. The midfield boasts captain Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Tochukwu Nnadi, and youngster Abdullahi Bewene.

Up front, Chelle can call on Moses Simon, Akor Adams, Rafiu Durosinmi, Terem Moffi, Otele, and Paul Onuachu, who was named Turkish Super Lig Goal of the Season on Tuesday and has been in fine form during training.

Poland, coached by Jan Urban, are expected to rely on winger Jakub Kamiński, alongside debutants Oskar Pietuszewski, Mateusz Żukowski, Norbert Wojtuszek, Kacper Potulski, and Oskar Wójcik.

The match will kick off at 8:45 p.m. local time (7:45 p.m. Nigeria time) at the 58,000-capacity PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw.
