Bednarek Eyes More Success After Stockholm Diamond League 200m Win in 19.87
American sprinter Kenneth Bednarek stormed to victory in the men’s 200m at the Stockholm Diamond League, clocking 19.87 seconds to secure first place.
Bednarek admitted the race was not flawless, particularly after a false start disrupted the rhythm, but he remained upbeat about his performance.
‘I came for the win and took the win so I am happy with that but maybe some parts of the race I can definitely work on,’ he said post-race. ‘The false start was a bit disconcerting, but I can deal with this and we prepare for these things, so it is fine.’
The 25-year-old, who will now return to the United States for a month of training before resuming the Diamond League circuit and the Ultimate Championships, said the race provided valuable lessons.
‘I have plenty to work on now… Overall a good day at the office but plenty more to do,’ he added.
Conditions in Stockholm were favourable, with Bednarek noting that the wind did not play a significant role.
‘The wind was ok out there and did not affect us too much,’ he said.
The victory adds momentum to Bednarek’s season as he builds towards the major championships later this summer, reinforcing his status as one of Team USA’s leading sprint contenders.
