Bolt Joins Pelé, Bobby Charlton, Beckham, Others As BBC Sports Personality of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award Winner!

Sprint legend Usain Bolt has received his award as the Lifetime Achievement Award Winner at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2022 in Manchester Wednesday evening.

Bolt won eight Olympic gold medals – including 100m and 200m titles at three consecutive Games – in addition to being the current world record-holder for 100m, 200m and 4x100m.

The fastest sprinter in history retired in August 2017 as a 19-time global champion and says he feels accomplished.

‘I feel accomplished. I’ve accomplished all I wanted to in my sport, so it’s just a great feeling to know that with [the] determination and sacrifice that I put in that I could accomplish what I wanted to,’ he said.

‘I always try to motivate people and say listen, believe in yourself and just go out there and do your best.’

He set the World Record in the men’s 100m at the Berlin World Championships, with the time of 9.58seconds.

Days later he broke the World Record for the 200m with 19.19seconds – beating his own previous record.

He remains the only athlete to win both the 100m and 200m titles at 3 consecutive Olympics (Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016).

Previous winners of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Lifetime Achievement award include Billie Jean King, Pelé, Bobby Charlton, Tanni Grey-Thompson, David Beckham, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Chris Hoy and last year’s winner Simone Biles.
