Boniface explains unusual goal celebration in Leverkusen’s big win at Hoffenheim
Victor Boniface has explained his unusual goal celebration after netting a brace in Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-1 demolition of ‘Village club’, Hoffenheim away at the PreZero Arena in Sinsheim near Hoffenheim.
After providing the assist for Leverkusen’s first goal scored by Martin Terrier on 17 minutes, Boniface turned scorer 13 minutes later off a Granit Xhaka assist.
The Nigerian also netted his club fourth goal to complete the rout away from home, but it was his celebration after his opening strike that got everyone talking.
Boniface pulled his shorts down which looked unusual to both the fans and the players on the pitch, but he cleared up the incident after the full-time whistle.
‘I didn’t want to provoke anyone. I did it in front of our fans. It’s a TikTok trend by a big influencer in Nigeria. I promised him that I would cheer so much, I just hadn’t scored yet,’ said the Nigerian.
