Boniface Returns After Knee Surgery, Targets End-of-Season Impact

Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface has expressed his delight at returning to training after a three-month injury layoff that initially ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

The Nigerian forward underwent knee surgery in January under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Christian Fink in Innsbruck, following consultations with medical teams from both Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen, his parent club.

At the time of the operation, Werder’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, confirmed that the club did not expect Boniface to feature again this season due to the lengthy rehabilitation process.

The loan agreement between Bremen and Leverkusen was maintained, but the expectation was that the 25-year-old would spend the rest of the campaign sidelined.

Now, Boniface has returned to light training, working separately from the main squad until he regains full fitness.

‘I am happy to be back after three months out,’ he said. ‘I am now looking forward to what we can achieve at the end of the season.’

His comeback comes at a crucial time for Werder Bremen, who sit 14th in the Bundesliga with 28 points from 27 matches, just four points above the relegation zone with seven games left to play.

Boniface’s availability could provide a timely boost as the club battles to secure its top-flight status.
