Boniface to Miss Rest of Season After Knee Surgery

Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface will be sidelined for several months after undergoing knee surgery in Innsbruck on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
The 25-year-old forward, currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, was examined by renowned knee specialist Prof. Dr. Christian Fink, who recommended immediate surgical intervention.
The decision was supported by medical teams from both Bremen and Leverkusen, and Boniface agreed to proceed following consultations in Austria.
‘We are happy that we now have a solution and that Victor is having an operation. Thus, there is clarity for all parties. Due to the rehab process, we no longer assume that Victor will still play for Werder this season,’ said Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football at Werder Bremen.
Despite the setback, the loan agreement between Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen will remain in place until the end of the season. Boniface is expected to begin rehabilitation immediately after surgery, with a long-term focus on returning to full fitness.
