Bordeaux offer Josh Maja contract extension

Despite missing out on an instant return to Ligue 1, Bordeaux have offered Josh Maja a contract extension.

The Nigerian international’s contract, according to France’s aouthoritative Sports newspaper, L’Equipe had included an automatic renewal clause if the team were to secure promotion at the first time of asking

However, Les Girondins have finished in third place – despite occupying second for much of the summer and missed out on promotion on the final day in bizarre circumstance.

Despite the setbacks, Maja, the former Sunderland and Fulham forward enjoyed a career-best campaign with 16 goals in the French second-tier.

Bordeaux have now decided they keep Maja for next season, and according to L’Équipe ‘a renewal offer has been put forward to the 24-year-old, consisting of
one season plus an option for a further year.’

Maja is however linked with many clubs in Europe with Scottish Premiership giants, Rangers keen on having the Nigerian on board for the 2023/24 season.
