Everton have confirmed that Rafa Benitez has left the club after just six-and-a-half months in charge following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Norwich..

The Toffees have won just once in the Premier League since September and are 15th in the table, six points above the relegation zone.

Everton have lost nine of their past 13 league games, including a 4-1 home defeat by Merseyside rivals Liverpool and a 5-2 home defeat against relegation strugglers Watford.

In a statement, the club says the Spaniard has left with immediate effect.

“Everton Football Club can confirm the departure of Rafael Benitez as First Team manager,” a club statement read.

“Benitez, who joined Everton in June 2021, has left the Club with immediate effect.

“An update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course.”

Benitez won just seven of 22 games he took charge as Everton boss in all competitions, losing 11 with 10 of the losses coming in the Premier League.

He won just five Premier League games out of 19 with his last victory on December 6, 2021 when he defeated Arsenal 2-1 at Goodison Park with an added time winner by Demarai Gray.
