Spain winger Lamine Yamal has declared that his team have “no fear” ahead of their highly anticipated FIFA World Cup semi-final against France following Spain’s dramatic quarter-final victory over Belgium.

Spain secured their place in the last four with a 2-1 win over Belgium, courtesy of a late goal from substitute Mikel Merino, setting up a blockbuster meeting with France, who defeated Morocco to reach the semi-finals.

Speaking after the match, Yamal expressed his delight at Spain’s progress while insisting the team remains confident despite the challenge posed by the reigning European heavyweights.

“I am so happy. We are in the semi-finals and we keep going,” Yamal said.

The Barcelona star acknowledged the close attention he receives from opposing defenders but stressed that Spain’s attacking quality allows others to exploit the spaces created.

“I am always closely marked, with multiple players on me, but there is always a free player, as it happened with the first goal,” he explained.

Looking ahead to the semi-final, Yamal dismissed any suggestion that Spain would be intimidated by France or their star-studded squad, which includes captain Kylian Mbappé.

“We have no fear. We have beaten France in the last two games,” he said.
