CAF Confederation Cup: Rivers United say they are condemned to beat Academica do Lobito

Rivers United chief coach, Evans Ogenyi and club captain, Nyima Nwagua Saturday morning say Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup group C tie against their host ,
Academica do Lobito of Luanda, Angola is a win or bust game for them.

Captain Nwagua says the players are not unaware of the task ahead of them as they need to win the game to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout
stage.

‘We understand the responsibility thrust on our shoulders. We will not fail the Nation,’ said Nwagua.

Rivers United are third in group C with six points from four matches and are three points behind the duo of Club Africain of Tunisia who tops the table on goal difference and Dreams FC of Ghana.

A win this weekend will put Rivers United in a position to determine its destiny when they host the Ghanaian side early March in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, their
adopted home for the competition.

Head coach Ogenyi says the Port Harcourt based side is left with no option other than beating the bottom club who has lost all four games in the competition.

‘Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition while perfecting our strategic approach on game day is important as we look to achieve
set objectives. We are condemned to win,’ he said at the pre-match press conference in Luanda.
