CAF Hands Down Heavy Sanctions on Senegal and Morocco After AFCON 2025 Final Chaos
The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has imposed a series of sanctions on the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), and several players and officials following incidents during the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final.
The Board found multiple violations of the CAF Disciplinary Code, citing breaches of fair play, integrity, and respect for the game.
For Senegal, Head Coach Pape Bouna Thiaw was suspended for five official CAF matches and fined USD 100,000 for unsporting conduct that brought the game into disrepute.
Players Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each suspended for two matches due to their behaviour towards the referee.
The FSF itself was fined USD 300,000 for the misconduct of its supporters and an additional USD 300,000 for the unsporting conduct of its players and technical staff.
A further fine of USD 15,000 was imposed after five Senegalese players received cautions during the match.
On the Moroccan side, Achraf Hakimi was suspended for two matches, with one of those suspended for a year, while Ismaël Saibari received a three-match suspension and a fine of USD 100,000.
The FRMF was fined USD 200,000 for the inappropriate behaviour of stadium ball boys and USD 100,000 for the actions of its players and staff, who invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the referee.
The federation was also fined USD 15,000 for the use of lasers by its supporters during the final.
In addition, the protest lodged by the FRMF against the FSF, alleging violations of Articles 82 and 84 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations, was rejected by the CAF Disciplinary Board.
