CAF Sends 15-Man Team To Nigeria For Final Inspection Ahead Of General Assembly, Awards

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will deploy a 15-man team to Nigeria on Friday for the second and final inspection of facilities ahead of the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards.
The delegation, led by CAF Head of Safety and Security Dr Christian Emeruwa, will assess preparations in Lagos and Abuja to ensure the facilities and arrangements meet the requirements for the two major events.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, on Saturday, November 21, while the 2026 CAF Awards will take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Lagos, on Monday, December 7.
During its first inspection, conducted from July 31 to August 4, the CAF delegation met with executives of institutions and agencies involved in hosting the events in both cities.
The meetings resulted in an agreement on regular communication and closer collaboration to ensure seamless organisation and the delivery of innovative and forward-looking events.
The team is expected to arrive in Lagos on Friday afternoon, where it will inspect the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Eko Hotel & Suites and Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The delegation will also hold engagements with officials of the Lagos State Government.
In Abuja, the CAF officials will assess the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Transcorp Hilton Hotel and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. They are also scheduled to pay courtesy visits to the Chairman and Director General of the National Sports Commission.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will coordinate the inspections, with a six-man delegation led by its Director of Communications, Dr Ademola Olajire, accompanying the CAF team.
The inspections represent the final assessment of Nigeria’s readiness to host the two continental football events, which will bring together key stakeholders in African football and celebrate the continent’s outstanding players, coaches and other contributors to the game.
