Calvin Bassey misses Rangers defeat of Blackpool in friendly game
Amid Ajax and Brighton transfer interest
Calvin Bassey was left out of the Rangers squad in the Gers 2-1 defeat of Blackpool in a pre-season friendly at Bloomfield- as Ajax ramp up their efforts to sign the defender.
The Dutch giants officially sold Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United and now hope to splash the cash earned on the Light Blues’ defender following his stellar season last term.
Speculation has been rampant this week with reports claiming Bassey had already spoken with head coach Alfred Schreuder on a call with a £20million transfer on the cards.
And Gio van Bronckhorst has added fuel to the fire after leaving the Nigerian out of the action at Bloomfield Road.
It has been speculated that Bassey is in London for further talks with a summer move looking likely.
Bassey had a standout campaign for Gers last season with a starring role in the Europa League Final against Eintracht Frankfurt and then again another a few weeks later in the Scottish Cup Final against Hearts at Hampden.
Brighton are also understood to be very interested in the centre-half but it looks like Ajax are closer to making a deal happen.
