Camacho-Quinn: The biggest goal is the Olympics

Reigning Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico says the result of the star-studded 100m hurdles race in the opening leg of the 2024 Diamond League season will not necessarily be the proper yardstick to determine what happens in July/August at the Olympics in Paris.

Camacho-Quinn is one of the world class stars that will line up for the race on Saturday and she will be up against the reigning World champion, Danielle Willaims of Jamaica, the reigning World indoor champion and record holder, Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas and former World chammpion and world outdoor record holder, Tobi Amusan of Nigeria.

The Puerto Rican believes the best time to be in shape will be July this year and reveals she was unsure of her current fitness.

‘Honestly, I’ll see where it’s at on Saturday. I have time and I’m not going to try be in tip-top shape so early. I’m taking it day by day, month by month. The biggest goal is the Olympics, so every race is used as preparation for that,’ she said at the pre-race press conference.

Williams is however aiming for a fast start and highlighted how the strength of the event is pushing her to new heights.

‘Competition is good, our rivalries are good, it forces us to show up every time on our A-game,’ she said. ‘It’s April, so I’m looking forward to competing, seeing where we are against this fast group of female hurdlers,’ said the Jamican.
