Cameroon Football Federation rejects Samuel Eto’o resignation

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has rejected Samuel Eto’o’s resignation as president following the exit of the Indomitable Lions at the round of 16 stage at the ongoing 34th Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Eto’o offered his resignation during an executive committee meeting in Yaounde on Monday but other members rejected it.

In an official statement released following the meeting, FECAFOOT affirmed its stance.

‘The Executive Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation convened on Monday, February 5, at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel. The agenda centered on assessing the senior men’s national team’s performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.”

‘After extensive discussions and deliberations, the Executive Committee unanimously opted to retain their current mandates, thereby rejecting the President’s resignation.

‘This decision reflects the committee’s renewed confidence in him to continue fostering the reconstruction and development of Cameroonian football across all levels, in line with the plan endorsed by the elective General Assembly on December 11, 2021.’

Eto’o assumed the presidency of FECAFOOT in December 2021.
