Cameroon Sack Coach, Drop Onana and Aboubakar Ahead of AFCON 2025

Cameroon have sacked Belgian coach Marc Brys and dropped Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana as well as veteran striker Vincent Aboubakar from their squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The decision follows Cameroon’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and Brys’ strained relationship with federation president Samuel Eto’o, who was re-elected last weekend.

Eto’o moved quickly to appoint local coach David Pagou, formerly of Coton Sport, to lead the Indomitable Lions.

Pagou’s 28-man squad includes Premier League players Bryan Mbeumo and Carlos Baleba, but the absence of Onana and Aboubakar has shocked fans.

Cameroon, five-time AFCON champions, will face defending champions Ivory Coast, Gabon and Mozambique in Group F when the tournament kicks off on December 21.
