Campbell Joins Elite 23m Club With Historic 23.08m Throw

Rajindra Campbell made history at the Diamond League Final in Brussels on Saturday, becoming only the fifth man in history to surpass 23 metres in the shot put after producing a Jamaican record of 23.08m.

Campbell’s winning throw also ranks as the fourth-farthest throw in history and the first 23m-plus effort since Joe Kovacs threw 23.13m in 2024.

The Jamaican revealed that a throw of this magnitude had been showing up in training and said crossing the 23m mark was a major milestone.

‘The 23 metre line is a badge of honour for every shot putter, so I’m extremely grateful to have crossed it,’ Campbell said.

The 23-year-old, who now represents Turkey, also declared his ambition to challenge the world record, saying greater consistency could take his performances to another level.
