Capello Hails ‘Completely Different’ Chukwueze Under Amorim

Former England manager Fabio Capello has praised the transformation of Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze under new AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim, describing the winger as a ‘completely different player’ from the one he watched two years ago.

Chukwueze, 27, has been handed a new role as a dynamic right wing-back by Amorim and has quickly made an impression. He scored and provided two assists in Milan’s pre-season meeting with Manchester United before producing a Man of the Match performance and supplying an assist in the Rossoneri’s 2-1 Serie A victory over Torino.

‘Chukwueze certainly deserves a mention, as he struck me as a completely different player than he was two years ago,’ Capello said, according to LiveScore. He also praised Milan’s intensity and willingness to immediately implement Amorim’s tactical ideas.

The Nigerian’s resurgence comes after he spent last season on loan at Fulham.

He has made 71 appearances and recorded eight goals and seven assists for Milan across his time at the club. Four of his goals and six of his assists came in 52 Serie A appearances, underlining the difference between his overall Milan record and his league output.

Amorim’s decision to utilise Chukwueze in a more demanding wing-back role appears to have given the Nigerian a new lease of life, with his attacking ability now being combined with greater defensive responsibility and tactical discipline.
