Carlo Ancelotti makes history

Becomes the first coach to win each of Europe's top five leagues

Carlo Ancelotti can now add the one prize that he was missing from his trophy cabinet: the LaLiga Santander title.

In doing so, the Italian has become the first coach to win each of Europe’s top five leagues: Serie A (Italy), the Premier League (England), the Bundesliga (Germany), Ligue 1 (France) and LaLiga Santander (Spain).

Ancelotti has achieved these feats with AC Milan, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid respectively, and he also has three Champions League trophies to his name.

Winning LaLiga Santander has been Ancelotti’s most unexpected triumph, as he returned to Real Madrid last summer after the club missed out on their main targets to replace Zinedine Zidane.

In spite of the doubts over his squad, he has brought the very best out of his players. His Real Madrid side have played great football, shown defensive solidity and are physically outstanding, which has been one of the keys to their triumph.

Ancelotti is already one of the greatest coaches in Real Madrid’s history, with the highest winning percentage of any of the club’s coaches.

In three full seasons, he has won LaLiga Santander once, led the club to La Decima, and they are one match away from another Champions League final.

He has shown himself to be an even better coach than in his first spell at the club, and his work with fitness coach Antonio Pintus has ensured that the team have remained in an excellent physical condition throughout the season.
