Carragher: Premier League title still in Arsenal’s hands, but..’

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says Arsenal need to perform a miracle when they meet Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday in what may prove the title decider.

Arsenal came from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 with bottom club, Southampton at the Emirates and Caragher feels both teams will feel disappointed with the result.

‘You can feel the disappointment. It was such a great game for the neutrals but for both teams, it will be disappointment.

‘Arsenal have to go to City and get three points to win the league now I think.

‘It is still in Arsenal’s hands and that shows how far ahead they were. They are going to have to do something miraculous now. It is going to have to be really special,’ Caragher told Sky Sports after Friday night’s 3-3 draw at the Emirates.

The Wednesday night showdown at the Etihad Stadium between Man City and Arsenal will be the ninth time in Premier League history that the top two have met in the final six games of the season (for the leader) with five points or fewer between them.

On five of the eight previous occasions, the team to win the game went on to win the title. Only two times have the team who went into the game in second place gone on to win the title.

The last time there was a title showdown like this, back in 2014, neither team won the league. Chelsea beat leaders Liverpool after 36 games but City went on to win the title.
