Chelle Expands Unity Cup Squad to 28, Adds Sor and Al Ameen

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has expanded Nigeria’s squad for the forthcoming Unity Cup tournament in London, adding two new names to the roster.

The Malian tactician has now handed invitations to Yira Sor of KRC Genk and Tijani Al Ameen of Shooting Stars SC, bringing the total number of players to 28.

Nigeria will defend their Unity Cup crown against fellow participants Zimbabwe, India, and Jamaica later this month, with Chelle expected to use the competition as part of preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

Sor, who enjoyed an impressive campaign in Belgium, earns another opportunity to impress Chelle after struggling to make a major impact during Nigeria’s friendly against Jordan in March.

His inclusion is linked to the absence of highly-rated youngster Zadok Yohanna, whose Swedish club AIK declined to release him for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Al Ameen’s call-up boosts the number of home-based NPFL players in the squad to eight.

He joins a contingent that already includes Tosin Oyedokun, Aderemi Adeoye, and Michael Atata from Ikorodu City, as well as Chibueze Oputa and Obinna Igboke of Rangers International, and Elias Ochobi from Rivers United.

The Super Eagles, reigning Unity Cup champions, will look to maintain their dominance in London.
