Chelsea Agree £7.5m Deal to Sign Martinez from Aston Villa

Chelsea have agreed a £7.5 million deal to sign Argentina World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa.
The 33-year-old is set to leave Villa Park after falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Japan international Zion Suzuki from Parma in a deal worth nearly £30 million.
Chelsea’s move for Martinez comes amid growing concerns over the performances of current first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who has faced criticism following recent errors.
The Blues are also expected to make a decision on the future of young goalkeeper Mike Penders, who started their Carabao Cup tie against Luton after returning from a loan spell at Strasbourg.
Martinez had also attracted interest from Juventus, but the Italian club opted to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham Hotspur instead.
The deal represents a significant late move by Chelsea as they seek greater competition and experience in the goalkeeping department, with Martinez bringing the pedigree of a World Cup winner and one of the Premier League’s most experienced goalkeepers.
