Chuba Akpom: ‘I can’t praise Michael Carrick enough for what he’s done for my career’

Nigeria-eligible Middlesbrough forward, Chuba Akpom says club’s gaffer, Michael Carrick turned his season around and made him the top goal scorer he has
become.

Akpom, 27, netted 28 goals for the Riverside outfit to end the Championship season as the top scorer.

The forward has highlighted the work that the Boro boss has done as being crucial to his upturn in form this season.

‘Carrick spoke to me straight away,’ Akpom told the Daily Mail.

‘In his second session, he put me in that new role.

‘I’m so grateful he did that — it’s got the best out of me.

‘Michael is a top man.

‘The gaffer is so humble… he would say he’s had nothing to do with my form, but I want to tell people he has been key.
‘I can’t praise him enough for what he’s done for my career.’

Akpom’s goals propelled the team from the relegation scrap to a play-off place, with the Premier League almost in sight at the Riverside.
