Chukwueze dedicates goal against Sudan to Osimhen

Villarreal of Spain winger Samuel Chukwueze has dedicated his goal in Super Eagles’ 3-1 defeat of Sudan in an African Nations Cup group D clash on Saturday to Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen could not make Nigeria’s 28-man team to the 33rd edition of the tournament after failing to recover on time from the cheekbone surgery he underwent last November and Chukwueze knows the 22 year old wanted to be in Cameroun if he had his way.

Chukwueze scored Nigeria’s first goal in the game as early as the third minute and the Villarreal man is hoping Osimhen will join them for the 2022 World Cup playoff next month.

”I am dedicating my goal to Osimhen who could not be to help the team. I hope he will be ready to join us in March for the World Cup playoff,’ said the Spain-based star.

The goal was Chukwueze’s second in an African Nations Cup final tournament after scoring the first goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat of South Africa at the quarterfinal stage of the 32nd edition of the competition in Egypt three years ago.

Chukwueze and Osimhen are friends and both were in the Nigeria U-17 team that lifted the 2015 FIFA World Cup in Chile with the latter emerging top scorer at the cadet championships.
