Chukwuma, Onojuvwevwo Set 200m Personal Best Indoors

Like she did a week ago when she ran a new 7.11 personal best in the 60m event, former African Youth and U20 double sprint champion Rosemary Chukwuma was in our element again on Friday at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas.

The 21 year old ran inside 23 seconds for the first time in her career to win the 200m event. Her time, 22.99, is a new personal best and barring any conversion, is the second sub-23 seconds run by a Nigerian in the event after Favour Ofili who holds the Nigerian record (22.46) and the third African to achieve the feat.

Also at the meet, Louisiana State University’s freshman, Ella Onojuvwevwo ran her first ever race indoors, setting a 24.15 personal record in the 200m event.

It was the 17 year old’s debut race for her school since she joined on scholarship last year.

In the men’s 60m, Godson Oghenebrume of LSU ran 6,78 that placed him 10th in the classification thereby missing the final won Kentucky University freshman, Jordan Anthony (6.55).
