Consider dethroned as 100m world leader!

Nigeria’s Consider Emmanuel Ekanem has been dethroned as the fastest man in the world in the 100m event.

The 19 year stormed to a lifetime best setting time of 10.10 last month at the Navy Sports Ground in Ojo, Lagos late last month.

The time, at the time, was the fastest run by any man so far in 2024 until Valentine’s Day, when Dutchman, Taymir Burnett ran a 100th of a second faster (10.09) in Potschefstroom to become the new world leader.

Consider, coached by former African champion and record holder, Seun Ogunkoya had the perfect opportunity to respond at the AFN African Games Trials last weekend in Asaba, Delta state.

He gave a hint of a sub-10.10 seconds in the heat when he stormed home first in 10.16 seconds.

In the final, the African Games-bound sprinter was eager to fulfill expectations of a watching crowd and those following on social media all over the world.

He however was too eager to run and false started which got him disqualified.

Consider stepped up and put another historic run in the 200m, stopping the clock at 20.43 seconds, the fastest time run on Nigerian soil in 21 years.
