De Bruyne hails ‘goal machine’ Haaland on historic night in Seville

Norwegian becomes first Manchester City player to score on both his Premier League and Champions League debut for the club

Man of the match Kevin de Bruyne has hailed ‘goal machine’ Erling Haaland after the striker took his tally in the UEFA Champions League to 25 goals in just 20 games.

The Norwegian netted a brace to inspire Premier League champions, Manchester City to a 4-0 victory over Sevilla and in the process became first player to score 25 goals quicker than anybody in the hitory of the competition.

Haaalnd also became the fourth player in the competition’s history to score in his first appearance for three different teams after Fernando Morientes, Javier Saviola and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

He scored a hat-trick on his debut in the competition in September 2019 in Red Bull Salzburg 6-2 demolition of Belgian side, KRC Genk at the Red Bull Arena Salzburg.

He scored a brace in his debut for German Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund in their 2-1 defeat of Paris Saint-Germain in February 2020 at the Signal Iduna Park.

Haaland is also the first Manchester City player to score on both his Premier League debut and UEFA Champions League debut for the club.

De Bruyne expressed happiness for the 22 year old’s perfect start in the Champions League for the Cityzens.

“I try to do my job and make the right movements and create the most chances I can,” admitted the Belgian who was Manchester City captain in the game.

“I know one way or another Erling [Haaland] will be there. At the moment he’s scoring the goals. For him it’s a perfect start.

“I think the way he has adapted to us is really good but obviously, outside of the goalscoring there’s another part of the game and that is more tough to adapt to.

“It makes it exciting if he can adapt to see the outcome. If you score that much you can get away with things. If he keeps on scoring then we know it’s a positive for us.”
