Dennis, Troost-Ekong in action as Watford are relegated from Premier League

Nigerian quartet of Emmanuel Dennis, William Troost-Ekong, Samuel Kalu and Peter Etebo have been relegated with their club, Watford.

Only Dennis and Troost-Ekong were in action at Selhurst Park where Roy Hodgson saw his 10-man Watford team relegated from the Premier League with a 1-0 loss at his former club Crystal Palace.

The Hornets needed a win to extend their stay in the top flight, but were undone by Wilfried Zaha’s 13th goal of the season.

Zaha sent Ben Foster the wrong way from the penalty spot after Hassane Kamara had handled Michael Olise’s header.

The day got worse for Kamara when he was sent off for a second booking in the second half.

While Dennis made his 30th start in 33 appearances so far this year, getting hauled off on 73 minutes after futile attempts to increase his goal haul to 11,
Troost-Ekong made his first appearance in the competition under Hodgson and second appearance in 2022.

The Super Eagles vice captain has not played since he featured for all 90 minutes in the Hornets’ 1-0 loss to visiting Tottenham at the Vicarage Road stadium on new year day until Saturday, coming in as a 78th minute substitute.

It was his second substitute appearance in 17 games in the competition.
