17-Year-Old Becomes 11th Nigerian Woman Under 51 Seconds in 400m
Seventeen-year-old Iyanuoluwa Aderemi announced herself as one of Nigeria’s brightest emerging quarter-milers after storming to a sensational personal best of 50.95 seconds to win the women’s 400m at the Dynamic Athletics Meet 2026 on Saturday at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Lagos, while also claiming Enefiok Udo-Obong’s ₦500,000 jackpot.
Aderemi’s stunning run represented a massive 0.91-second improvement on the 51.86 seconds she clocked on June 21, 2026.
More significantly, she comfortably surpassed the 51.80-second target set by Olympic champion Udo-Obong, beating the challenge mark by 0.85 seconds to trigger the ₦500,000 prize.
Her victory also earned her the ₦50,000 race prize donated by Princess Mabel Madojiemu, while Esther Okon finished second in a personal best of 51.52 seconds to collect ₦30,000.
Onyinyechi Success Onu placed third and received ₦20,000.
The performance also propelled Aderemi into an elite group of Nigerian female quarter-milers. Her 50.95 seconds makes her the 11th Nigerian woman to break the 51-second barrier in the event and ranks her as the 10th-fastest Nigerian woman in history over 400m.
If officially ratified, the performance will also give Aderemi the Nigerian U18 record in the event and make her the fourth-fastest Nigerian U20 athlete in history over 400m.
