Eagles EPL Round-Up: Iwobi Equals Iheanacho As Joint Third In Nigerian All-Time Assist List

Substitute Aribo helps Southampton beat Chelsea, Middlesbrough linked Onyeka subbed on again

Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi is now joint third with Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho in the Premier League all-time assists list by Nigerian players in the competition.

The 26 year old ‘s ball forward is flicked through the legs of Diego Llorente and then finished coolly by reported Chelsea-target Anthony Gordon to put the visitors ahead against Leeds United at Elland Road on 17 minutes.

It was Iwobi’s first assist of the season in the Premier League which draws him level with Iheanacho as the two Nigerian players that have bagged an assist so far this term.

It also increased his total haul in 188 Premier League games to 21, same as Iheanacho (171 games) to become the third joint Nigerian in the Premier League assist list.

Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu tops the chart with 29 assists followed by Yakubu Aiyegbeni who bagged three less than the former Super Eagles captain.

Iwobi has now started all five games he has featured in against Leeds United in the Premier League.

At Selhurst Park, Frank Onyeka made his second substitute appearance for Brentford who forced their host, Crystal Palace to a 1-1 draw.

Onyeka, linked with a move to Championship side, Middlesbrough came in for Bryan Mbeumo on 68 minutes as The Bees desperately searhed for an equaliser after Wilfred Zaha had put the host ahead in the first half.

Another substitute, Yoane Wissa drew the visitors level on 88 minutes for their second consecutive 1-1 draw after stealing another late equaliser at Everton at the weekend.

At Saint Mary’s stadium, Joe Aribo was also subbed on in the second half as his club, Southampton defeated Chelsea 2-1.

Aribo repalced Romeo Lavia on 60 minutes and helped the host maintain their 2-1 first half lead.
