Eagles Friday Round-Up: Moffi, Awoniyi on target in France, England

Terem Moffi scored his sixth goal in his last five Ligue 1 games to guide FC Lorient to a 3-1 away victory over Auxerre at the Stade de l’Abbe-Deschamps on Friday night.

The Nigerian put Lorient 2-0 ahead in the 36th minute after being set up by Montassar Talbi. Dango Ouattara had opened the scoring earlier on while Enzo Le Fee made it 3-0 on 42 minutes.

The goal is also his 28th in 77 Ligue 1 games for the club across two seasons. It is also his 29th for the club in 80 games across all competitions.

Fellow Nigerian compatriot, Innocent Bonke who is also on the payroll of Lorient started the game from the substitutes’ bench but was replaced by Julien Ponceau in the 72nd minute.
In the English Premier League, Taiwo Awoniyi was on target when Nottingham Forest lost 3-2 to Fulham at the City Ground.

It was the Super Eagles forward’s second Premier League goal for Forest so far this campaign.

Awoniyi joined the newly promoted side from German club, Union Berlin for £17.5m during the summer transfer window after an impressive campaign in the Bundesliga last season.

Also at the City Ground, another ‘Nigerian’, Tosin Adarabioyo was also on target, this time for the visitors, Fulham.

The Nigerian-by-name actually started Fulham’s revival against Forest after netting their first goal which happened to be the defender’s first strike in 40 Premier League matches.

Meanwhile, Chidera Ejuke contributed an assist but it wasn’t enough to see Hertha Berlin scale through as they eventually played out a 1-1 draw with Mainz 05 in Friday’s German Bundesliga match.

Ejuke had a hand in Hertha’s only goal of the game after setting up Lucas Tousart to open the scoring in the 30th minute only for Mainz to secure a late equaliser at the MEWA Arena.

The Nigerian winger was then substituted for Peter Pekarik seven minutes from the end of the game as he baggged his second Bundesliga assist of the season for his new club.
