Eagles tipped to overtake Tunisia, Algeria in February FIFA ranking
Egypt, Cameroun also tipped to move into top five in Africa
The Super Eagles have been tipped to move four places up into 32nd best in the world and third in Africa when the February FIFA rankings are released this Thursday.
The Super Eagles won three of their group stage games before crashing out in the round of 16 at the 33rd AFCON concluded on Sunday in Cameroun.
The victories have moved Austin Eguavoen’s team into the top three in Africa and number 32 in the world.
Nigeria have now been ranked above Tunisia and Algeria as the two north African countries slipped out of the top five.
Tunisia will be ranked sixth in Africa and 37th in the world while Algeria who failed to make it out of the group stage in Cameroun will now be ranked seventh in the continent and 43rd in the world.
Egypt, silver medallist at the AFCON and Cameroun who picked the bronze are now fourth and fifth respectively.
This will be the first time since last April the Super Eagles will be ranked third in Africa and 32nd in the world. Ghana, who Nigeria play in a two-legged World Cup playoffs in March have been tipped to slip from 49th to 61st in the world and 11th in Africa.
