Eboboritse Invites 62 Players as Golden Eaglets Begin WAFU B U17 Preparations
Nigeria’s U17 national team, the Golden Eaglets, have begun preparations for the 2026 WAFU B U17 Championship, with head coach Uwejamomere Eboboritse inviting 62 players to camp for the first phase of screening and training in Abuja.
The provisional squad comprises five goalkeepers, 18 defenders, 20 midfielders and 19 forwards drawn from clubs and academies across the country.
The invited players have been directed to report to the team’s training camp in the Federal Capital Territory, where Eboboritse, alongside his assistants Kalli Mohammed Kachalla and Abdullahi Isa, will begin the process of assembling a competitive squad for the regional tournament.
The technical crew faces the task of building another formidable Golden Eaglets side as Nigeria seeks to maintain its reputation as one of the world’s most successful youth football nations.
The Golden Eaglets remain the most successful team in the history of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, having won the global title a record five times.
The 2026 WAFU B U17 Championship, scheduled for October, will serve as a crucial platform for the young players to stake their claim for places in Nigeria’s final squad and compete for regional honours, while also pursuing qualification for the next continental championship.
The screening exercise is expected to help the coaching staff identify the country’s brightest young talents ahead of the competition.
