Edo Queens Clinch Second NWFL Premiership Title
Aduku Makes History with Third NWFL Premiership Title
Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after holding Bayelsa Queens to a goalless draw in the decisive Super Six playoff clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
Bayelsa Queens entered the final match needing victory to secure the title, but Edo Queens, requiring only a draw, executed their defensive strategy with discipline to claim their second league crown.
The result cements Edo Queens’ place among Nigeria’s elite, joining Bayelsa Queens as the only clubs to have won the NWFL Premiership twice in the last six seasons.
Head coach Moses Aduku made history by becoming the first manager to win three NWFL Premiership titles in six seasons. Aduku previously guided Bayelsa Queens to glory in 2022 before leading Edo Queens to triumphs in 2024 and now 2026.
Elsewhere on Matchday 5, Nasarawa Amazons and Rivers Angels played out a stalemate, while FC Robo Queens fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Abia Angels.
Edo Queens finished top of the Super Six table with 10 points, two clear of Bayelsa Queens, while Nasarawa Amazons secured third place. Abia Angels impressed in their debut campaign with six points, while FC Robo Queens and Rivers Angels ended with four points each.
Individual honours were shared across the league: FC Robo Queens’ Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named Player of the Season, Fatima Oloko won Goalkeeper of the Season, and Rivers Angels’ Abasiofon Uwah and Edo Queens’ Atume Doosuur shared the Golden Boot with 13 goals apiece. Rivers Angels also received the Fair Play Prize.
As champions, Edo Queens will represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Burkina Faso from August 13 to September 5, aiming to secure a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League and potentially the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.
The grand finale was graced by dignitaries including NFF board member Aisha Falode, former board member Barr. Chris Green, Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Peter Akor, Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Daniel Igali, Edo State Sports Commission Chairman Desmond Enabulele, NFF Director of Competitions Ruth David, and Bendel Insurance Chairman Jarrett Tenebe.
