Ella Onojuvwevwo set to make LSU debut at Purple Tiger Invitational Jan 13
Ofili also set to open her season at the meet for the second year running
Two-time World U20 champion (4x400m and 4x400m mixed relays), Ella Onojuvwevwo is set to make her track debut for her school, Louisiana State University (LSU), Louisiana, USA next weekend when the Tigers (LSU athletics team) officially begin their 2023 athletics season.
The Nigerian, 17, will compete at Purple Tiger Invitational which her school will be hosting at the Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge, the capital city of Louisiana on Friday January 13, 2023.
Onojuvwevwo joined Louisiana State University last year after helping Nigeria to finish sixth in the 4x400m final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom last August.
The teenager is expected to follow in the footsteps of her compatriot, Favour Ofili who wasted no time in making her mark at the school after joining in 2021.
Ofili who ran an impressive 22.69 in her debut race at the school would later go on to, in less than two years become the first and only Nigerian to run inside 23 seconds in the 200m event indoors culminating in a 22.46 Nigeria record and inside 22 seconds outdoors to fetch her the Nigeria 200m record (21.96).
The 20 year old will also be in action at the Purple Tiger Invitational for the second season running.
The Commonwealth Games 200m silver medalist opened her 2022 season at the same event in January last year, running two personal bests (7.27 and 7.25) in one day before improving it to 7.17 a month later.
The second Nigerian teenager at the school is expected to join early this year and, like Ofili did in 2021, will only start competiting outdoors.
