Nigerian quarter-miler Ella Onojuvwevwo has announced her arrival on the professional stage in spectacular fashion, clocking a brilliant new personal best of 49.47 seconds to win the Lone Star Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event in Texas.
The 21-year-old, who celebrated her birthday in March, delivered the performance of her career to date, moving up to number two on the global top list for 2026.
Despite this achievement, she remains fourth on Nigeria’s all-time list behind legends Falilat Ogunkoya (49.10), Charity Opara (49.29), and Fatimah Yusuf (49.43A).
