Emmanuel Dennis three goals away from joining an exclusive club of Super Eagles in the EPL

Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis will be seeking to fire himself into another Premier League record set by Nigerians in the history of the competition when he takes to the Turf Moor pitch Wednesday evening for a matchweek 17 clash with Burnley.

The 24 year old made his Premier League record with a bang, scoring and assisting in a 3-2 defeat of Aston Villa. The feat made him only the fourth Nigerian to score on their Premier league debut and the second after John Utaka to score and assist in his first match in the competition.

Since then the former Club Brugge player has not relented and has scored seven times in 15 appearances. His total of seven goals and five assists is only betterred by Liverpool’s Mo Salah in terms of direct involvement in goal so far in the competition.

Dennis is now on the prowl for more goals and if he scores his first career hat-trick on Wednesday night, he will take his total tally this season to 10 goals, a feat that will make him the sixth Nigerian to hit double figures in a Premier League season after Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Nwankwo Kanu, Peter Odemwingie, Efan Ekoku and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Aiyegbeni remains the Nigerian top scorer in the history of the Premier League with 96 goals in 252 apperances. He is also the Nigerian top scorer in a Premier League season following the 17 he scored for Blackburn Rovers in his final season (2011/12) in the competition.

Meanwhile, will be aiming to score his fifth goal in six matches this term at Turf Moor

Dennis, arguably Watford’s best player of the season so far, will be aiming to score his fifth goal in his last six matches and eighth 16 league appearances Wednesday night.
The Hornets are in a precarious situation on the league table as they are currently two points above the relegation zone and will well count on Dennis if they are to pick anything against Sean Dyche’s men.

Dennis equaled Troy Deeney’s four-year club record of scoring in three consecutive matches between last month and the first day of the month after he found the back of the net against Manchester United, Leicester City and Chelsea.
