Enekwechi begins Diamond League Final preparation with Memorial Borisa Hanžekovića 2024 in Zagreb

Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will begin his preparation for his first ever Diamond League final appearance at the Memorial Borisa Hanžekovića 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour gold event in Zagreb, Croatia on Saturday.

Enekwechi is up against familiar foes in the meeting in the Croatian capital and he will be seeking to return to throwing 21m plus consistently like he did before the Olympics.

Since the Paris 2024 Olympics, the 31-year-old has hit the 21m mark just once in four meetings and he knows he needs to throw farther than the 21.91m lifetime best he achieved in Eugene, USA in May to stand a chance of making history as the first Nigerian man and field eventer to win a Diamond League title.

Ryan Crouser, the triple Olympic champion and Joe Kovacs, the two-time world champion and three-time Olympic silver medalist top the list of contestants the Nigerian will battle with in Zageb and at the Diamond League final in Brussels next weekend.

Also confirmed for both Zagreb and Brussels are Rajindra Campbell of Jamaica, Payton Otterdahl of the USA and Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri.
